Elite Septic Service wants every customer in East Texas to be able to use this website, including people who browse with a keyboard, a screen reader, screen magnification, voice control, or captions. Septic problems are urgent, and nobody should struggle to reach us because of how our website is built.
Our conformance target
We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA as our working standard. WCAG is the benchmark the U.S. Department of Justice points to as helpful guidance for making websites accessible under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We have not had this website independently audited or certified, so we do not claim that it is fully conformant, and we do not claim that it is “100% ADA compliant.” We think an honest description is more useful to you than a badge. Accessibility is something we keep working on, and we would rather hear about a problem and fix it than pretend there are none.
What we do to keep this site usable
Keyboard access
You can reach the navigation, every link, the contact form, and the footer using only the Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, and arrow keys, without a mouse. Interactive elements show a visible focus outline so you can see where you are on the page, and the tab order follows the visual order of the page.
Structure for screen readers
Pages are built with real HTML landmarks, so a screen reader can jump straight to the header, main content, or footer. Each page has one main heading followed by section headings in a consistent order, so you can navigate by heading instead of reading everything. Lists, such as our services and service areas, are marked up as real lists.
Links and buttons
Links and buttons are written to make sense on their own, so “Septic Tank Repair” or “Request a quote” rather than “click here.” Phone numbers are real telephone links you can activate to call us directly. Links that open in a new tab or go to another company’s site are made clear.
Color and contrast
We use dark text on light backgrounds for body content and aim to meet the WCAG AA contrast minimum of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. We do not rely on color alone to convey meaning, so anything marked by color is also identified by text, shape, or position.
Images
Images that carry meaning, such as our logo and photographs of completed work, have alternative text describing what they show. Images that are purely decorative are marked so screen readers skip them instead of reading out filenames.
Our contact form
Every field on our quote form has a visible label that stays on screen while you type, rather than a placeholder that disappears. Required fields are marked. If something is missing or mistyped, the error message appears next to the field it belongs to and explains what to fix in plain words, and it is announced to screen readers rather than only shown in color.
Phones, tablets, and zoom
The site reflows to fit small screens and to work at up to 200% browser zoom without content being cut off or requiring horizontal scrolling. Tap targets such as menu items, phone links, and footer links are sized and spaced to be easy to hit on a phone. The site works in portrait and landscape.
Known limitations
We would rather tell you about these than have you discover them:
- Embedded Google Maps. The maps on several pages come from Google and we cannot change how they behave with a keyboard or screen reader. Anywhere we show a map, the same information is also written out in text, and you can always just call us for directions.
- Google reviews widget. Our reviews are displayed by a third-party widget whose accessibility is outside our control.
- No independent audit. This site has not been tested by an outside accessibility specialist, so there may be issues we have not found yet.
- Older content. Pages and blog posts published before this statement are being reviewed and corrected as we go.
If something does not work for you
Please tell us. Describe the page and what went wrong, and we will look into it and get back to you. We aim to respond within five business days. If a part of the website is blocking you, we will also just take care of your request directly over the phone.
